OVERVIEW

Globally, air pollution is recognised as a serious threat. Some estimates suggest that it is the cause of more than 7 million deaths every year. When it comes to Air Pollution, India ranks 174/178 countries on quality of air. 14 out of the 20 most polluted cities in the world are in India. And it is estimated that in 2017, 1 out of 8 deaths in India were due to air pollution. This is why air pollution in India needs immediate action.

A-PAG is a foundation that has been set up to help reduce air pollution in India. The focus of the Foundation is on the Indo-Gangetic plain; on the Punjab crop burning issue and in other states like Bihar where issue here is more acute than it is around the country.

OBJECTIVE

A-PAG asked NetProphets to develop a Dashboard which allows their team to monitor sources of pollution and track and manage the action taken, to bring those steps towards resolution.

The system was designed to be the eyes of the work at A-PAG.

SOLUTION

The dashboard is currently live in Patna, where it's the basis for a focused program on dispersed sources of pollution (largely biomass and dust). Issues - identified through a ground survey - are uploaded onto the dashboard, and allocated directly to the concerned official within Patna Municipal Corporation, Road Construction Department & Building Construction Department. The dashboard is used to then track & monitor progress on each of these jobs. 167 users from across these agencies are currently registered on the dashboard, and so far 1940 issues have been uploaded which are being tracked for resolution. The dashboard has also been deployed in Gurgaon, as part of the Air Action Lab of the Gurgaon Municipal Corporation.
